Tahira Kashyap made a head-turning entry on the ramp at Lakme Fashion Week

The Cherry Blossom has been the inspiration for numerous designers but Pooja Shroff translated it into an utterly feminine, elegant look for her collection called “Saar” at The Atelier during Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2020. A decade in the fashion business, Pooja’s line had a delicate Japanese flavour, as the silhouettes revealed Sumo pants and Kimonos, both ideal for summer lounging

The designer’s mother Archana Shroff opened the show donning a regal, white saree in circular and striped patches of Gota Patti work with an overtly feminine cape. The sheer sleeves of the blouse and the lustrous, golden trims at the hem of the 6-yard staple sparked unparalleled elegance.

The fabric line-up stayed true to sustainability with organic textiles like cotton Chanderi, organza and Chanderi organza. The sheer beauty of the Chanderi materials was further enhanced by Pooja’s colour palette that revolved around pastels like aster purple, buttercup yellow and cream all hues ideal for the warm summer months. Adding a fun element to the ensembles, Pooja had handmade tassels along with surface texturing that was intricately worked on the creations.

An array of flamboyant lehenga and blouse sets with immersive, decorative details were distinctively styled with proportionately embellished sheer capes. A sensual plunging neckline blouse worn with a pristine white lehenga was layered with a floor-sweeping cape. The billowy sleeves of the cape and the encrusted pearls on the skirt further enhanced the dainty essence of the look.

The flowing wide pants styled with a choli and rich dupattas was a modern take on traditional wear. The cutaway shoulders, layered top, over swirling skirt gleamed with silver polka dots and the floor kissing high slit kurta over flouncy skirt would be a great bridal trousseau offering.

Writer and theatre director, Tahira Kashyap made a head-turning entry on the ramp in a panelled, boxy blouse with cowl sleeves and a gathered centre. The look was completed with a voluminous ivory lehenga. The prepossessing 3D hand textures at the border of the skirt made a stunning style statement on the runway.

When the mercury moves up and warm summer breezes blow, Pooja Shroff’s “Saar” collection with hints of Japanese flavour will create a cooling fashionable vibe.
