Amazon Prime Video’s ambitious global franchise Citadel has made waves across continents, with its multi-national spin-offs capturing audience attention in India and Italy. However, despite the fanfare, the streaming giant has now confirmed that further seasons of the spin-offs Citadel: Honey Bunny and Citadel: Diana will not be moving forward. The announcement comes as a bittersweet update for fans, but there’s a twist—these stories are far from over.
Vernon Sanders, Head of Television at Amazon MGM Studios, shared that while the individual international chapters will not continue as separate series, their narratives will converge into the highly anticipated Season 2 of the main Citadel series. He revealed that the storylines from both Citadel: Honey Bunny and Citadel: Diana, which explored India and Italy, will be seamlessly integrated into the second season of the main Citadel series.
The original Citadel, created by the Russo Brothers, starred Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden as elite spies Nadia Sinh and Mason Kane. With its high-octane action and gripping plotlines, the show quickly became one of Amazon Prime Video’s most-watched global series. Season 2, which is slated for a Q2 2026 release, promises to raise the stakes even higher.
“Season 2 of Citadel will be our most exhilarating yet,” Sanders added. “With high-stakes storytelling, new additions to our amazing cast and bold, cinematic ambition, the new season will deepen the emotional journeys of Nadia, Mason and Orlick against the relentless force that is Manticore.”
The Indian spin-off, Citadel: Honey Bunny, released last year, was helmed by celebrated director duo Raj & DK and starred Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The show served as both a standalone narrative and a crucial prequel, revealing the origins of Nadia’s parents. Alongside Varun and Samantha, the cast featured Saqib Saleem, Sikandar Kher, Soham Majumdar, Shivankit Parihar, and Kashvi Majmundar.
On the other hand, Citadel: Diana, which premiered in October 2024, showcased Italian star Matilda De Angelis as the titular spy. The series also featured Lorenzo Cervasio, Maurizio Lombardi, Julia Piaton, and Thekla Reuten, bringing a European flair to the global franchise.
Despite the cancellations, fans can take heart in the fact that their favorite characters from Honey Bunny and Diana will return—and potentially collide—in the main storyline. With production reportedly underway and promises of bold storytelling, Season 2 of Citadel is shaping up to be a thrilling global showdown.
For now, fans can rewatch the international spin-offs while they await the next chapter in this sprawling spy saga. The world of Citadel may be changing, but its pulse-pounding heart remains very much intact.
