The pretty lady speaks to Expresso Magazine exclusively, and shares her passion, struggles and the Roshan legacy:
Since your debut film “Ishq Vishk Rebound”, talks about love – what’s your take on love?
Pashmina Roshan : I feel love is everything in life. Yes the way of expressing love has become different now but the feeling is the same. I feel when you are in love you take that extra effort for your love to be the most important person in the relationship.
What were the challenges you faced during the shoot of “Ishq Vishk Rebound”?
Pashmina Roshan : I did proper and thorough workshops in acting as I am new to the industry. Right from voice modulation to dialogue delivery, I have gone through every small detail of acting. My co-stars Jibraan Khan and Rohit Saraf have helped me a lot during the shooting of our film. The workshops really helped me overcome my challenges. During the filming of “Ishq Vishk Rebound”, I lost an important person in my family so I had to rush back to Mumbai from Dehradun. That also made me realise that I am in a job where commitment matters a lot. An actor’s job is to fulfil her commitment. I immediately started shooting though it was a long day but that day I got to know that I can face challenges too.
How was your bonding with co-stars in the film?
Pashmina Roshan : I must say I was lucky to get Rohit Saraf, Jibraan Khan and Naila Grrewal as my colleagues. We all are young and gave enough time to each other for a healthy working relationship. During our workshops we shared stuff which we have not shared with our friends also. So there was a huge comfort level. We were protective about each other. My co-stars had already faced the camera before me and they came to the set with a specific point of view. I have learnt a lot from each of them.
You come from a legendary family – father is Rajesh Roshan and uncle Rakesh Roshan. How has that impacted your generation?
Pashmina Roshan : Yes we share a special bonding and for that I would like to give the credit to my brother Hrithik Roshan. He is the one who takes initiative in family get together. If there is a long gap in our meetings he will call all of us home and spend time. He is also someone who plans for a family trip. We have a family group chat named “Real Deal”, where Duggu bhaiya, Saba Azad (Hrithik’s girlfriend), Hrehaan and Hridhaan are there.
What’s the most important tip your elder brother Hrithik Roshan has given?
Pashmina Roshan : I have always given maximum importance to his feedback and tips. And I have always told him that he should not always praise me but should come up with my shortcomings so I can work on them.
What’s your fondest memory with Hrithik Roshan while growing up?
Pashmina Roshan : It has to be dance related. Like the whole world I am also a big admirer of his dancing style. I have also taken lessons in Kathak, Bharat Natyam, Belly dancing, Hiphop. When you have a dancing star like Duggu Bhaiya (Hrithik Roshan) you eventually fall in love with dance.
Have you ever been to his film sets?
Pashmina Roshan : My desire to act began when I was on the set of Koi Mil Gaya with my sister Suranika. For us it was like being in Disney land. If you see the behind-the-scenes footage of “Koi… Mil Gaya”, you would hear my uncle (Rakesh Roshan) yelling at us to sit down. I loved being on set. From that day to now, whenever I am on set, I feel like there is no other place I would rather be.
How have you faced rejections?
Pashmina Roshan : I believe when we are in a battle field it’s a do or die situation. You will fall and then again you have to get up and then become better than before. One has to know rejection happens for a reason and as an artist we should always know the reasons for rejection. When I don’t get a particular role, I also try to find the reasons and work on my skills. Ups and downs are part of an actor’s career. After a lot of rejections, after continuously evaluating myself and taking feedback from family, I finally got my debut film.
How inclined are you towards music?
Pashmina Roshan : I must say with full honesty I am not at all melodious. I can’t sing. Yes I have special inclinations towards the musical instruments. I can play piano well. I greatly admire my grandfather, the music composer Roshan, and frequently listen to his compositions. My favorite song of his is ‘Laga Chunri Mein Daag.’
Do you take the pressure of Roshan surname?
Pashmina Roshan : I don’t take pressure but yes I am working hard on my career. I think my surname Roshan is a blessing, I have been giving auditions for so long and I have also faced rejections. I haven’t had everything handed to me on a platter.
