Pink Peacock Couture by the multi-talented designer Masumi Mewawalla has been a bridal favourite. Known for merging European aesthetics with Indian silhouettes, the label has become a go-to for modern brides wanting to look glamorous yet feel light.
For Winter/Festive 2019 at The Studio during Lakmé Fashion Week, Pink Peacock Couture presented an elegant bridal collection “Art Nouveau and Art Deco”. A combination of design aesthetics from the late 1800s to early 1900s and the old European architecture of Mumbai could be seen forming a unique harmony. With this variety, Pink Peacock Couture presented a contemporary collection for modish and sophisticated brides-to-be.
Staying true to the label’s name, various hues of pink formed the key colour. An addition of chic pastel shades further reflected the European inspiration. Layered lehengas, interesting blouse cuts and fresh draped styles modernised the collection and would be a pick for any bride wanting to look classy! Exaggerated floor-length bows and bag-size clutches were the highlights of the show.
Rich fabrics with a hint of translucency were embellished with intricate embroidery and fine craftsmanship. The art nouveau inspiration focused on asymmetric free-flowing designs, while symmetric geometric motifs reflected the art deco style. This created the fusion of cubism and morphism, highlighting elements like smooth lines, flower stalks, vine tendrils and many more delicate, sinuous natural motifs.
The two-toned pink/white embroidered gown with a huge, sheer, floor-sweeping pink bow was a head-turner. A mesmerising Indo-western outfit was the ivory, puff-sleeved shirt having an enormous bow at the waist, with a lehenga embellished in shades of gold.
The former Miss Diva and Bollywood actress, Urvashi Rautela, twirled on the ramp in an embroidered, sky blue gown with an attached cape.
‘Art Nouveau & Art Deco’ by Pink Peacock Couture created by Masumi Mewawalla showed an unconventional side of bridal fashion that encompassed inspiration from a different culture and olden times to form one-of-a-kind Indian traditional outfits. This collection is sure to be a best seller amongst brides who want to look polished yet exquisite.
