‘The Queen’s Closet’
Kavita Agarwal’s label was launched in 2009 as her celebration of womanhood. A decade later, the celebrations have continued making several women feel beautiful about their innermost self. The label has been known for its surface ornamentation, as well as contemporary touches to Indian wear; and while designing Kavita Agarwal has always kept in mind women who embrace their femininity and strength – these complementing ideas have kept the label alive!
Taking inspiration from royalty, Kavita Agarwal presented ‘The Queen’s Closet’ at The Studio during Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019. Grand and larger-than-life designs were head-turners for the women wanting to look classy. The collection would be a hit amongst those looking for some trousseau shopping this wedding season!
Colour played a key role in building up the look of royalty for the show. Rich dyes of plum, bamboo, misty jade, mulled grape and tropical green formed the base of the collection. Crêpe for beautiful falls and drapes, jacquards for a detailed look of lustre and tulle to add translucency – all formed a lavish extravagant cocktail!
The intricate, classic, hand embroidery showed a strong sense of Indian heritage and being close to the roots, but the silhouettes brought in a sense of modernity. Keeping in trend, lehengas with peplum cholis, saris with mandarin-collar blouses, Indo-western gowns and pre-stitched easy-to-wear saris were the key silhouettes of the collection. A variety of exquisite drapes, placement pleats and sheer layering made Kavita Agarwal’s collection stand out.
The dark grey, criss-cross front, peplum blouse, embroidered in white and gold was teamed with a floral jacquard skirt and embellished choker. An outfit that stood out was the beige, puffed sleeve, plunging neckline tunic with a flared skirt. Pearls for jewellery added to the royalty of the show.
The versatile Bollywood actress, Soha Ali Khan Pataudi, looked like royalty wearing a beige lehenga, choli and long dupatta – all heavily embellished with golden and deep green.
Since luxury and sophistication is what women want for Indian wear, ‘The Queen’s Closet’ by Kavita Agarwal would definitely find its way into every stylish woman’s closet this festive season.
