Making Her Mark Through Her Work, Ace Designer Surbhi Pansari’s Story Inspires Us All
The role of women in society has been seeing a paradigm shift ever since women became self-aware. Kolkata based ace menswear designer Surbhi Pansari has kept no stone unturned to showcase the beauty of the Indian culture blended well with contemporary designs.
When one thinks of the fashion industry, it invariably tends to be associated with designers and their beautiful cuts and creations for women. Surbhi Pansari, however, decided to tread the not-so-frequently travelled road of exclusive menswear. Characterised by her individual style, classic craftsmanship and fit, use of ultra-luxe fabrics and vibrant colours and blending of ethnic colours, cuts and silhouettes with Western influences, Pansari’s designs are classy, contemporary and indeed pretty cool.
Pansari’s childhood was characterised by happy times, full of fun, laughter and creativity. While she attributes her creative genes to her father, she can’t thank her mother enough for instilling in her the traditions and culture of the Pansari clan, which hails from Fathepur, Rajasthan. After school, a degree in science followed, and then, interestingly, life took a sharp turn towards a career in fashion designing.
Reminiscing about the journey, Pansari says, “I was attracted to colours, cuts and silhouettes during my college days. So, I decided to enrol at NIFD, Kolkata. After acquiring my degree in fashion designing from NIFD, Kolkata, like most others, I was egged on to launch my own label.”The talented designer has participated in Kolkata Fashion Week and Kolkata Design Week since then and has received immense appreciation for her inimitable designs and collections. Pansari has also judged and encouraged several young designers from various schools and colleges in Kolkata.
It has never been easy for women to juggle a thriving career and a happy family life. Designer Surbhi Pansari balances her blissful family along with a rewarding career without any inhibitions.

An innovative and creative entrepreneur, Shilpa Sethi, owner/founder of Kolkata’s multi-designer store, ’Dapper’, exclusively dedicated to menswear, started her career in the year 2014 with her franchise menswear store, ‘Nine’, stepping into the fashion world by adding core values and passion to her repertoire of work. The proud mother of two was inspired by her husband to venture into the menswear fashion industry. Setting the perfect example of the modern-day woman, she strikes the perfect balance between her family and her passion.
“Men are becoming more and more fashion-conscious and global fashion awareness amongst the youth has made menswear extremely popular,” adds Shilpa.
“Designers have become more experimental with men’s clothing, whilst still maintaining their classic styles. ‘Dapper’ aims to cater to men across age groups and their diverse styles and I can’t wait to show the mix of designers we have in store for you,” shares Shilpa. The proud mother of two was inspired by her husband to venture into the menswear fashion industry.
