The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Utsavam 2024 has officially launched in Abu Dhabi, celebrating the rich tapestry of Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada cinema. This three-day event began on Friday and brought together a dazzling array of stars from across the Indian film industry.
A Night to Remember
The inaugural evening of IIFA Utsavam was a spectacle, attended by the crème de la crème of South Indian cinema. Renowned filmmakers and actors such as Mani Ratnam, Chiranjeevi, Nandamuri Balakrishna, A.R. Rahman, Rana Daggubati, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Venkatesh Daggubati graced the occasion, creating an electric atmosphere. Bollywood luminaries like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Shahid Kapoor, Ananya Panday, Kriti Sanon, Karan Johar, Javed Akhtar, and Shabana Azmi also joined in the festivities, bridging the gap between regional and national cinema.

Celebrating Excellence
The awards ceremony highlighted some of the most significant achievements in Indian cinema. Mani Ratnam was honored with the Best Director award for his magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan: II (PS 2), while Rajinikanth’s Jailer claimed the coveted Best Film award. In acting categories, Nani won Best Actor (Telugu) for his compelling performance in Dasara, while Vikram snagged the Best Actor (Tamil) award for his role in PS 2.
The night also shone a spotlight on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who was recognized as the Best Actress (Tamil) for her performance in Ponniyin Selvan: II. Notably, A.R. Rahman took home two awards for Best Background Score and Best Music Direction, underscoring his exceptional contribution to PS 2.

In addition to individual achievements, Chiranjeevi was honored with the Outstanding Achievement in Indian Cinema award, while Priyadarshan received accolades for his Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema. Samantha Ruth Prabhu was celebrated as the Woman of the Year in Indian Cinema, recognizing her impact on the industry.

The Road Ahead
The second day of IIFA Utsavam promises to be equally thrilling, with Bollywood icons Shah Rukh Khan, Vicky Kaushal, and Karan Johar set to host the prestigious IIFA Awards night. The legendary Rekha will also make her much-anticipated return to the IIFA stage for a special performance, adding an extra layer of glamour to the proceedings.
The grand finale will take place on September 29 with the exclusive, invitation-only IIFA Rocks, featuring live performances from renowned artists like Honey Singh, Shilpa Rao, and the celebrated trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.
