The Lakmé Fashion Week, in collaboration with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), is set to present an exciting event, The Denim Edit, on Friday, October 11, 2024, at The Grand in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. This unique showcase will feature the innovative creations of five acclaimed designers: Ashish Soni, Sushant Abrol of Countrymade, Dhruv Kapoor, Kanika Goyal Label (KGL), and Himanshu Shani and Mia Morikawa of 11:11.
Denim, a fabric that transcends age, gender, and style, has been a staple in wardrobes across the globe for nearly 150 years. As Sunil Sethi, Chairman of FDCI, aptly states, “Denim has been a part of every wardrobe, age group, and gender, making it a staple for everyone, universally. What will be interesting to see is the interpretation and engaging rendition each of the five designers give to this fabric.”
Designer Highlights
Ashish N Soni
Known for his “less is more” philosophy, Ashish N Soni brings his signature clean lines and impeccable cuts to the denim showcase. “I am thrilled to be part of this multi-designer show, which celebrates the enduring trend of denim,” he shares. He commends FDCI for creating a unique platform that showcases contemporary designers pushing the boundaries of denim.
Sushant Abrol of Countrymade
With a penchant for military detailing, Sushant Abrol’s collection, titled Trail Dust, promises to be an expedition in every stitch. “Denim becomes a canvas for life’s raw beauty—telling stories of resilience, adventure, and the indelible marks left on every journey,” he explains, highlighting how each piece narrates a unique tale.
Dhruv Kapoor
Renowned for his custom-developed fabrics, Dhruv Kapoor’s collection embraces a Retro yet contemporary charm. “Our capsule features iconic details, captivating designs, and refined colours through sophisticated treatments and unconventional pairings,” he notes. The collection showcases denim in diverse forms—giant and petite, distressed and hand-embroidered, painted, and raw.
Kanika Goyal Label (KGL)
For Kanika Goyal, denim embodies rebellion and self-expression. “Denim is more than just a fabric; it is a testament to individuality,” she asserts. Her neo-luxury brand reinterprets denim through bold tailoring, seamlessly blending craftsmanship with versatility and timeless appeal.
11:11 by Mia Morikawa and Himanshu Shani
As champions of sustainability, Mia Morikawa and Himanshu Shani will spotlight responsible denim in their gender-neutral designs. Their approach emphasizes how denim can cater to different wearers—whether as a jacket or a beloved pair of jeans—while remaining environmentally conscious.
