The buzz surrounding Ramayana continues to intensify as new developments emerge from the ambitious project. Actor Ranbir Kapoor has reportedly begun filming for Ramayana: Part 2 in Mumbai, even as the first installment prepares for its theatrical release during Diwali next year.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, the mythological spectacle has been envisioned as a two-part cinematic adaptation mounted on an unprecedented scale. While Ramayana: Part 1 is currently undergoing post-production and gearing up for its Diwali 2026 release, the team has already shifted focus to filming the next chapter of the saga.

According to sources associated with the production, the upcoming schedule will primarily focus on the storyline following Sita’s abduction, pushing the narrative toward Lord Ram’s journey to Lanka. Lavish sets have reportedly been constructed to depict this phase of the epic, with several dramatic sequences planned between Lord Ram and Hanuman.

Actor Sunny Deol, who portrays Lord Hanuman, is expected to join the shoot shortly. The schedule is said to span nearly two months, featuring large-scale action sequences and emotionally charged moments central to the story’s progression.

Apart from Ranbir Kapoor, the film features Sai Pallavi as Sita, while Yash steps into the role of the formidable antagonist Ravan. Actor Ravie Dubey will appear as Lakshman, and he too is expected to be part of the ongoing schedule.

Before beginning this phase of filming, Ranbir Kapoor had been busy shooting for Love and War alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. Meanwhile, Sunny Deol has been working on an upcoming project directed by A. R. Murugadoss for Excel Entertainment.

Adding to the anticipation, a rough cut of Ramayana: Part 1 was recently screened for a select audience at the Cinemark Playa Vista in Los Angeles. The test screening, attended by viewers between the ages of 18 and 60, was organised to gather early feedback. Initial responses reportedly highlighted the film’s visual scale, storytelling and VFX, raising expectations for the finished version.

The ambitious project is reportedly being mounted with an estimated budget of around ₹4,000 crore, making it one of the most expensive Indian film ventures ever undertaken. Producer Namit Malhotra has also stated that the film is being designed to deliver a global cinematic experience, with sequences specifically crafted for the IMAX format.

While Ramayana: Part 1 is set to arrive in theatres during Diwali 2026, the second installment is currently scheduled for release in 2027, promising to carry forward one of the most iconic mythological narratives to the big screen on an unprecedented scale.
