Alaya F, known for her commitment to fitness and wellness, has revealed that her second attempt at the 75-Hard challenge was overshadowed by a serious health issue. Just a day before completing the programme, the actress announced that she had been diagnosed with SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth), explaining nearly three months of unexplained symptoms.

In a video shared on social media, Alaya said she spent most of the challenge feeling fatigued, inflamed and constantly bloated. “You’re used to seeing my stomach look toned, but throughout this 75 Hard, it mostly looked bloated. For almost three months, we just couldn’t diagnose what was wrong,” she said. The eventual diagnosis revealed a severe case of SIBO, a condition that affects nutrient absorption and causes issues such as bloating, low strength, slow muscle recovery and brain fog. “Basically, it’s the worst thing that can happen to you while you’re on a 75 Hard,” she added, sharing that she has been on antibiotics for more than 50 days.

Reflecting on her journey, Alaya said this round of 75 Hard looked nothing like her first. “Last time was about pushing myself. This time it was about showing up and doing the bare minimum. I wasn’t seeing progress; I was only seeing symptoms,” she said. Still, she described the experience as transformative in an unexpected way. “It’s life-changing to feel proud when nothing looks great. True discipline isn’t intensity; it’s consistency.”

What is SIBO?
Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth occurs when excessive bacteria multiply in the small intestine, leading to bloating, gas, abdominal pain, diarrhea, fatigue and difficulty absorbing nutrients.

What is 75 Hard?
The 75-day mental resilience challenge outlines a rigorous daily regimen: a disciplined diet without cheat meals or alcohol, two 45-minute workouts with at least one outdoors, four litres of water intake, 10 pages of non-fiction reading, and a mandatory progress photo. Skipping any single requirement resets the participant back to day one, reinforcing consistency and accountability.

Alaya’s experience serves as a reminder that even the most disciplined fitness journeys require listening to one’s body. Her story adds a layer of realism to a programme known for its intensity, highlighting that consistency sometimes involves slowing down and prioritising health.
