After completing a high-octane two-week schedule in Kenya, acclaimed director SS Rajamouli has shifted gears to further accelerate production on his much-anticipated project SSMB29. The latest shooting schedule began recently at RFC Studios in Hyderabad, where the film unit is reportedly capturing pivotal scenes featuring Mahesh Babu, Prithviraj Sumumaran, and Madhavan.
The first two shooting schedules of SSMB29 took place in Hyderabad and Odisha, each spanning 20 days and involving Mahesh Babu, Prithviraj Sumumaran, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. Now, the ongoing Hyderabad schedule is expected to extend until the first week of October, making it one of the most intensive phases of the film’s production so far.
One of the highlights of this schedule is the creation of an extravagant Varanasi set within the film city. Designed by renowned set designer Mohan Bingi, the set meticulously recreates the spiritual capital of India in the traditional Nagara architectural style, complete with towering spires, intricate carvings, and a lavish ambience. Industry insiders suggest that the makers invested approximately ₹40 crore in building this expansive set, which is touted to be the most expensive constructed for Rajamouli’s films to date.
Mahesh Babu, Prithviraj Sumumaran, and Madhavan are reportedly shooting several action-packed and dramatic sequences on this grand set. Rajamouli’s approach remains consistent with his signature filmmaking style—combining real set designs with cutting-edge visual effects to craft an immersive cinematic experience. As always, the director will shoot elaborate scenes on the set before enhancing the visuals through VFX to achieve a seamless blend of realism and fantasy.
