Review: Ghoomketu is a tale that revolves around an ambitious writer (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) from small town Mahona, in UP who wants to mark his name in the film industry in Mumbai. As the film began we saw that he left his native land and take off to Mumbai with a hope to make it big in Bollywood. He only got 30 days and in this timespan he tried very hard to prove himself that he is so much worthy. Otherwise he will have to return his village where his angry dadda is waiting for him.
In this film we meet a failed but jolly & good-humored writer Ghoomketu aka Nawazuddin Siddiqui. He resides with a fun-loving family. His patriarch Dadda aka Raghuvir Yadav whose temperaments are always high. IIa Arun as ‘Bua’ of Ghoomketu was really impossible to make out. She has brought many shades in her character. She played an extraordinarily funny character that one can seem to enjoy fully. There is another character to be mentioned, i.e. mysterious wife of Ghoomketu. Ghoomketu suspects that his wife mistakenly exchanged at his wedding ceremony. Ghoomketu was promised to keep us entertained and make us laugh at the beginning but later it was failed to do so.
As a character of Ghoomketu, Nawazuddin is amazing us once again. His performance is neatly crafted with his own sense of style that can set the mood of the movie.
On the other hand a corrupt policeman named Badlani aka Anurag Kashyap was the surprise package for the show. His job is to find out Ghoomketu within 30 days. But somehow due to lack of tightness in the script he loses his show at the end.
Apart from Nawazuddin only one actor gets full-time applause from the audience, i.e. Ila Arun no doubt. With her quirky sense of unique mannerism she delivered a splendid job as ‘Santo Bua’. Apart from them the other cast like Raghubir Yadav, Bijendra Kala, Rajendra Sethi, Swanand Kirkire, Ragini Khanna was doing their job as per the script demand. Actually there is nothing much to do.
Rather than that, a group of real-life stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Sonakshi Sinha, and Ranveer Singh played a cameo, where Big B impresses very much in his role. This small town comedy-drama created with extra care and no single point allowing it to be dull. And as they told in the movie “Comedy likho badi demand hai”, the makers are tried very hard to prove this throughout the movie. All in all Ghoomketu has sweet fun elements and 1 hour 45 minutes good mood lifter. Writer-director Pushpendra Nath Misra’s Ghoomketu, shares three clear pictures in your mind, like an aspiring writer, his strange and loud family members, and spending his 30 days colorless dull life of Mumbai.
The best part of the movie is definitely its climax. Though it has been released after almost six years from its completion it put a nice, healthy impact on your taste of humor. Even if you are a fan of Nawazuddin, it’s definitely a part of your binge-watch list.
