Filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli’s recent trek to Deomali, Odisha’s highest peak, was a bittersweet experience. While the RRR director was captivated by the breathtaking view from the top, he was disheartened by the trail marred with litter, including plastic bottles and wafer wrappers. Rajamouli took to social media platform X to express his disappointment, urging visitors to exercise better civic sense and protect the pristine beauty of such natural wonders.
“Had an amazing solo trek to Deomali, Odisha’s highest and most stunning peak. The view from the top was absolutely breathtaking. However, it was disheartening to see the trail marred by litter. Such pristine wonders deserve better. A little civic sense can make a huge difference… Every visitor should carry back their waste to help protect these places,” Rajamouli wrote, sharing a video that showcased the scattered plastic waste atop Deomali.

The acclaimed director recently wrapped up filming for his much-anticipated project, SSMB29, in Odisha. Earlier this year, Rajamouli hinted at the beginning of the shoot for the film through a cryptic social media post. SSMB29 reportedly stars Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, marking Priyanka’s return to Indian cinema after her 2019 film, The Sky is Pink.
The project is generating considerable buzz, with reports suggesting it will be an adventure film inspired by iconic Hollywood franchises like Indiana Jones. Priyanka has been sharing glimpses from her shooting days in Odisha, adding to the excitement surrounding the film.
While Rajamouli’s Deomali trek highlighted the region’s natural splendor, his call for environmental responsibility serves as a poignant reminder to preserve these wonders for future generations.
