Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has made headlines once again, this time for being the highest taxpayer among Indian celebrities in 2024. According to Fortune India, Khan’s tax contribution for the financial year stands at a staggering ₹92 crore, placing him ahead of cricketing sensation Virat Kohli and fellow actor Salman Khan.
Shah Rukh Khan’s impressive tax contribution is reflective of his monumental success at the box office in 2023. His film “Jawan” not only became the highest-grossing Indian film of the year, amassing over ₹1,148.32 crore, but also stood as the second highest-grossing Hindi film and the sixth highest-grossing Indian film of all time. The film’s success was closely followed by another blockbuster, “Pathaan,” which grossed ₹1,050.30 crore worldwide, making it the second highest-grossing Indian film of 2023. His third release, “Dunki,” also made a mark by grossing ₹196.68 crore globally.
Following Shah Rukh Khan on the taxpayer list is Tamil cinema’s leading man, Vijay, who paid ₹80 crore in taxes. Salman Khan, known for his extensive filmography and fan base, came in third with a tax contribution of ₹75 crore. Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, a stalwart of Indian cinema, paid ₹71 crore, securing the fourth spot.
Cricketer Virat Kohli, who previously topped the list in earlier years, is now fifth, with a tax payment of ₹66 crore. Other notable celebrities in the tax bracket include Ajay Devgn and MS Dhoni, who paid ₹42 crore and ₹38 crore, respectively. Ranbir Kapoor contributed ₹36 crore, while Hrithik Roshan and Sachin Tendulkar each paid ₹28 crore. Kapil Sharma, Sourav Ganguly, Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Hardik Pandya, and Kiara Advani also featured in the list, contributing varying amounts.
Shah Rukh Khan is set to continue his reign in the industry with his upcoming film King, directed by Sujoy Ghosh and produced by Siddharth Anand’s Marflix Pictures in collaboration with Shah Rukh’s Red Chillies Entertainment. The film, which also stars his daughter Suhana Khan and Abhishek Bachchan, is expected to commence shooting later this year and is anticipated to hit theaters in 2025 or early 2026.
Khan’s substantial tax payment not only highlights his financial success but also underscores his significant impact on the Indian film industry and economy. His achievements continue to set a high standard in both his professional and financial endeavors.
