After the death of Irrfan Khan just a day before on Wednesday, this is a nightmare for Indian Cinema. Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor has breathed his last at the age of 67. After getting unwell he was admitted to HN Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai. Wife Neetu Kapoor and son Ranbir had been constantly by his side. Brother Randhir Kapoor revealed a statement that Rishi was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday morning. Now he confirmed the news that after two years battling of cancer legend of the Indian Cinema, Rishi Kapoor passed away.
The Kapoor Family issued an official statement, “Our dear Rishi Kapoor passed away peacefully at 8:45 am IST in hospital today after a two-year battle with leukaemia. The doctors and medical staff at the hospital said he kept them entertained to the last.
He remained jovial and determined to live to the fullest right through two years of treatment across two continents. Family, friends, food and films remained his focus and everyone who met him during this time was amazed at how he did not let his illness get the better of him.
He was grateful for the love of his fans that poured in from the world over. In his passing, they would all understand that he would like to be remembered with a smile always and not with tears.
In this hour of personal loss, we also recognise the world is going through a very rough patch and troubled time too. There are numerous restrictions around movement and gathering in public. We would like to request all his fans and well-wishers and friends of the family to please respect the laws that are in force. He would not have it any other way.”
Amitabh Bachchan has shared a post on his Twitter showing grief about his co-star Rishi Kapoor. He wrote, “He’s GONE ..! Rishi Kapoor .. gone .. just passed away .. I am destroyed !”
Earlier this year Rishi Kapoor had been shooting for “Sharmaji Namkeen” in National Capital when he fell unwell and was shifted to a hospital in Mumbai. In 2018 Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh took off to New York for underwent treatment for cancer. Rishi Kapoor is well known for his on-screen performances like Mera Naam Joker, Bobby, Chandni, Amar Akbar Antony and many more.
