The mythological drama Mahavatar Narsimha has achieved a historic milestone, emerging as the first-ever Indian animated movie to cross the ₹200 crore mark at the global box office.
Hombale Films, in collaboration with Kleem Productions, shared the news on Tuesday, hailing the film’s remarkable box-office journey. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film has earned ₹208.15 crore domestically and an impressive ₹221.25 crore worldwide.
Despite a modest start with ₹1.75 crore nett on its opening day, the movie’s fortunes changed quickly, driven by glowing audience reviews and strong word-of-mouth. By the close of its first week, Mahavatar Narsimha had collected ₹44.75 crore nett. Its second week saw a surge, beginning with ₹7.7 crore nett on Friday, followed by ₹38.50 crore nett over the weekend. Weekday collections added another ₹21.8 crore nett to its total.
This release marks the beginning of an ambitious 10-year cinematic journey based on the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu. The planned sequels include Mahavatar Parshuram (2027), Mahavatar Raghunandan (2029), Mahavatar Dwarkadhish (2031), and Mahavatar Gokulananda (2033). The franchise will conclude with Mahavatar Kalki Part 1 in 2035 and Mahavatar Kalki Part 2 in 2037.
With its record-breaking run, Mahavatar Narsimha has redefined the potential of animated cinema in India and paved the way for grand-scale mythological storytelling in the animated space — a move that could inspire a new wave of Indian animation.
