Amar Kaushik, the director of the much-anticipated film Stree 2, has recently addressed the swirling controversy surrounding the movie’s poster, which has drawn comparisons to popular Hollywood franchises like Harry Potter and the Netflix series Stranger Things. The poster, featuring the lead actors Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, has sparked debates on social media regarding its similarities to these well-known franchises.
In a candid interview with India Today, Amar Kaushik responded to these allegations by clarifying that neither the poster nor the film’s climax was intended to mimic the elements from Stranger Things or Harry Potter. He emphasized that the similarities were purely coincidental.
“I have to be honest, I have not watched Harry Potter,” Amar admitted. “My team is familiar with the series and has been advising me if any scenes might resemble those from other films or series. As for Stranger Things, I have watched it, but many of the scenes in Stree 2 are inspired by our own cultural roots. For instance, the climax where Vicky must showcase his goodness to remove the sword was a natural progression for us. In the first film, it was Vicky’s innocence that helped combat Stree. In this sequel, his kindness and innocence are his superpowers, which was the core idea behind the scene.”
Regarding the poster’s resemblance to Stranger Things, Kaushik confessed that the similarity was an unexpected coincidence. “We didn’t realize it at first. The designer created the poster, we liked it, and later noticed it had some resemblance. I understand that the audience is perceptive and can spot any potential plagiarism. Our intention was never to copy; if we had known, we would have avoided it.”
Stree 2 boasts an impressive cast, including Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, Mushtaq Khan, Sunita Rajwar, and Anya Singh, with special appearances by Akshay Kumar, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Varun Dhawan. The film continues the story of its beloved characters, promising a blend of comedy, horror, and heartfelt moments.
As Stree 2 approaches its release, it remains to be seen how audiences will receive the film and its elements. However, Amar Kaushik’s transparency about the creative process and the accidental similarities should reassure fans that the film’s unique charm and cultural grounding remain its core focus.
