In what can only be described as a dream come true for music lovers across the globe, English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has confirmed an exciting collaboration with India’s most beloved musical powerhouse, Arijit Singh, for his upcoming album. The news has sent fans into a frenzy, with the two global icons preparing to blend their distinctive sounds into a fusion that promises to be both soulful and groundbreaking.
The collaboration had been brewing for some time, with Sheeran and Singh first bonding during a jam session in London last September. Arijit, who was performing in the UK capital, shared the stage with Sheeran as they sang an impromptu medley of hits — from Ed’s chart-topping “Perfect” to Arijit’s fan-favourites like “Hawayein” and “Tera Hone Laga Hoon.” That musical rendezvous laid the foundation for a partnership that fans had only dared to imagine — until now.
In a recent interview with UK-based radio station Heart, Sheeran officially spilled the beans on the collaboration. “I worked a lot with this Indian singer Arijit Singh who is really good and really wonderful,” Sheeran revealed. “He lives in a quiet, remote town in India. It took us a 3-hour flight followed by a 5-and-a-half hour drive to get there. I was traveling with my dad at the time, and Arijit told me, ‘If you want the vocals, you’ll have to come to me.’”
And come to him he did.
In February this year, Sheeran travelled to Jiyaganj in West Bengal, Arijit’s hometown, turning what he described as a “pilgrimage” into an unforgettable day. “We spent nearly an entire day traveling to his village, and once we arrived, Arijit took us on a ride through the town on mopeds. It was such a memorable and fun experience,” Sheeran recalled, reflecting on the special moments they shared while cruising through the peaceful lanes of Murshidabad.
The moment quickly went viral, and fans couldn’t contain their excitement. Comments poured in on social media:
“Two of the greatest artists are coming together. I’m so fortunate to be part of this,” wrote one user.
“My prayers paid off. I was praying for a collaboration between Arijit and Ed and it’s happening. Let’s gooo. I’m excited now,” said another.
The global crossover follows Ed Sheeran’s recent return to India, where he embarked on a mini-tour earlier this year. It was his third tour in India, having previously performed during his x Tour in 2015 and the Divide Tour in 2017 at Mumbai’s Jio Gardens.
What makes this collaboration truly special is not just the star power but the cultural exchange and musical depth both artists bring. Arijit Singh’s emotive voice and lyrical mastery in Hindi music, fused with Ed Sheeran’s songwriting genius and international flair, promises to result in a track — or perhaps an entire album — that could redefine the global music landscape.
As fans count down to the release, one thing is certain: this collaboration is more than just a duet — it’s a celebration of music’s universal language.
