In a significant move reflecting the impact of current geopolitical tensions, the makers of Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, have announced the cancellation of its theatrical release. Originally scheduled to hit cinemas on May 9, the much-awaited romantic comedy will now premiere exclusively on Prime Video worldwide on May 16.

The announcement was made via social media on Thursday by Maddock Films, the production house behind the film. Citing “heightened security drills across the nation” due to rising India-Pakistan tensions, the decision was described as a precautionary measure. “In light of recent events and the heightened security drills across the nation, we at Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios have decided to bring our family entertainer, Bhool Chuk Maaf, directly to your homes on May 16 — only on Prime Video, worldwide,” the statement read. “The spirit of the nation comes first.”
Produced by Dinesh Vijan under the Maddock Films banner, and in association with Amazon MGM Studios, the film is directed and written by Karan Sharma. Bhool Chuk Maaf tells the story of a groom-to-be, played by Rajkummar Rao, who finds himself caught in a bizarre time loop just ahead of his wedding. He wakes up every day to the same haldi ceremony, bewildered and desperate to understand why his big day never arrives. Wamiqa Gabbi stars as Titli, his bride-to-be, adding charm and wit to this lighthearted yet intriguing narrative.
This direct-to-digital release adds another notable title to Prime Video’s growing slate of Indian originals. The decision underscores the changing dynamics of film distribution in a post-pandemic world, where OTT platforms continue to gain prominence—especially when circumstances make theatrical rollouts uncertain.
With the shift to a global streaming release, fans of the duo can now look forward to enjoying Bhool Chuk Maaf from the comfort of their homes. As anticipation builds for the film’s digital premiere, the audience awaits what promises to be a fun, quirky take on love, fate, and second chances.
