Vidya Balan has announced a new project, marking her return to Tamil cinema and a reunion with filmmaker R. Balakrishnan, popularly known as R. Balki. The actor shared the news on social media on September 29, 2026, posting photographs from the sets with a script in hand.
In one of her Instagram Stories, Vidya wrote, “A quiet moment before the madness begins.” In another behind-the-scenes photograph, she teased the project with the caption, “New Beginnings #NewTamilFilm with #RBalki.”
The announcement has generated curiosity, particularly because Vidya and R. Balki are reuniting after 17 years. The duo previously collaborated on the 2009 film Paa, which starred Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan in pivotal roles.
Details about Vidya’s new Tamil film, including its title, storyline and other members of the cast, are currently being kept under wraps. More information about the project is expected to emerge as production progresses.
Meanwhile, Vidya has a busy slate ahead. She will next be seen in Nelson Dilipkumar’s action drama Jailer 2, starring Rajinikanth. Vidya is set to play the powerful antagonist Kantha in the film, which is scheduled for theatrical release on October 15, 2026.
The actor also has another film lined up for December 4, 2026, in which she will share screen space with Akshay Kumar once again. The two actors have previously worked together in films including Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), Heyy Babyy (2007) and Mission Mangal (2019).
The title of the upcoming Akshay Kumar-Vidya Balan film, directed by Anees Bazmee, has not yet been officially announced, and Vidya’s role remains under wraps.
