Ajay Devgn, R. Madhavan Reflect on How Love Has Become ‘Casual’ in Today’s Generation

In a world where ‘love’ pops up casually in texts, DMs, captions, and comments, Ajay Devgn believes the emotion itself has undergone a quiet dilution. Speaking with R. Madhavan during a conversation on BookMyShow’s YouTube channel while promoting De De Pyaar De 2, the actor offered a candid take on what love looks like today.

“There was a time when saying ‘I love you’ was the final step,” Ajay said. “You reached that point after building trust, hesitation, connection. Today, the word is thrown around so often that its depth is fading.”

Madhavan agreed, recalling how earnestly people once used the word—even in small gestures and everyday moments. “Now every message ends with a heart emoji. Every text signs off with ‘love’ as if it’s punctuation,” he said. To him, the emotion has become “very casual,” bordering on something people reserve only for their pets. “The unconditional love you feel for your pets—that’s beautiful. But I wish people could still feel that for another human being.”

Ajay took the thought further: “You love your pets because they don’t demand anything in return.” The subtext? Human relationships today are weighed down by expectations, negotiations, and a growing fear of emotional vulnerability.

These reflections arrive soon after Kajol’s now-viral remarks on her show Two Much With Kajol and Twinkle, where she suggested marriages should come with a “renewal option” and even an “expiry date,” sparking debate about evolving relationships and societal pressures.

Her comment—half humorous, half pointed—echoes a broader conversation that Ajay and Madhavan’s interview taps into: our shifting understanding of love, commitment, and emotional responsibility.

As De De Pyaar De 2 hits theatres today, the discussions surrounding love and modern relationships—intended or not—have become an unexpected prelude to the film’s release. The cast includes Ajay Devgn, R. Madhavan, Rakul Preet Singh, Meezaan Jafri, and Javed Jaffrey.
