At the trailer launch of Metro… In Dino, director Anurag Basu was asked whether the sequel pays tribute to KK. His heartfelt reply moved everyone present. “The whole film and the soundtrack are a tribute to him,” Basu said. “The film is a tribute to KK and Irrfan Khan. I told Bhushan ji (Bhushan Kumar) today that KK complemented Pritam’s compositions the most. Not just in Life In A… Metro, but KK had sung for all my films. Obviously, I will miss him.”
KK, who tragically passed away in 2022, was known for his soul-stirring voice and his ability to convey layered emotions through song. His contributions to Life In A… Metro—especially tracks like “Alvida” and “O Meri Jaan”—remain iconic. With Pritam returning to compose for Metro… In Dino, KK’s absence is deeply felt, each note of the new soundtrack evoking his memory.
Basu recounted a touching moment during filming: “We were shooting a scene with a tone similar to one from the first film, and suddenly Konkona started crying. Even now, I worry the same will happen if someone asks about him. We miss him, we miss KK very much, and many others with whom we’ve collaborated earlier.”
Metro… In Dino features a fresh ensemble cast including Konkona Sen Sharma, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Saswata Chatterjee, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, and Rohan Gurbaxani.
