Filmmaker-writer Tahira Kashyap , known for her candidness and strength, is back home and recovering well after being diagnosed with a relapse of breast cancer. The writer-director, who was first diagnosed in 2018, took to Instagram to share an emotional and heartfelt note, expressing deep gratitude for the outpouring of love and support she has received over the past few days.
“Basking in all the love and prayers! They are magical! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Back home and recovering ,” she wrote, alongside a warm message about the power of human connection.
In her post, Tahira acknowledged not only the people who know her personally but also the countless strangers who have held her in their thoughts. “I know some of you who are praying and so many whom I don’t know and yet I receive all your goodness with grace. Similarly, some of you know me and others might not, but I send all my gratitude to all of you,” she said. “And when such a connection is made which is beyond actual relationship, it’s called Humanity, which is the highest form of spirituality .”

Tahira, who is married to Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana, has long been admired for her transparency and resilience through her health journey. In 2018, she first opened up about her battle with breast cancer, becoming a voice of strength and awareness. More recently in February, she shared a poignant image of herself with a clean-shaven head—an emblem of defiance and self-love—captioned with an empowering message.
Her openness has struck a chord with many, as she often documents her journey not to evoke sympathy, but to inspire. Through photos, personal anecdotes, and reflections on chemotherapy and healing, she continues to break stigma and offer solidarity to others fighting similar battles.
Apart from her personal strength, Tahira has also made significant strides in her professional life. She made her directorial debut with the short film Toffee in 2017, which received critical acclaim. Her latest project, Sharmajee Ki Beti, premiered on Prime Video.
As she recuperates, Tahira’s message remains a beacon of hope: in the face of adversity, compassion and humanity rise above all. Her story is not just one of survival, but of thriving through connection, courage, and creativity.
