Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl

Janhvi Kapoor has never failed to impress the audience with her powerful and exceptional performance on the big screen. In a very less time, she garnered immense love and admiration from every corner and left fans amazed with her back-to-back super hit movies. She made her debut in 2018 with ‘Dhadak’.

Soon she was seen giving a thunderous performance in the film titled ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’. Helmed by director Sharan Sharma, the film also starred Pankaj Tripathi and Angad Bedi in pivotal roles. The film proved the versatility of Janhvi Kapoor as an actor and was loved by the audience.

As the film clocked one year today, Janhvi Kapoor took to her Instagram and dropped a host of photos. Walking down the lane of memories, she shared some stills from the set of the movie and penned a heartfelt note expressing her gratitude for the entire crew and cast.

In the caption, she wrote, “nothing I ever say will do enough justice to what this journey has meant to me. I could have never even dreamt of a creative process that felt so pure and enriching, in every way. And I’m so grateful for all the people that helped make it that way, and most of all to Gunjan Mam for letting us be privy to her spirit and her rare sincerity, something that continues to guide me and shape my outlook in everything I try to do. And Sharry, for recognizing and making us all feel the importance of what this story stood for. As soon she posted the photos, the comment section was flooded with admiration and love from every corner. Her cousin Shanaya Kapoor also showered love in the comments section.

Angad Bedi who played a pivotal role in the film too took a moment and celebrated the first anniversary of the film. Bankrolled by Dharma production, the film is based on the real-life incidents of former Indian Air Force combat pilot Gunjan Saxena who entered the war zone during the 1999 Kargil War. The film was well-received by everyone while Janhvi Kapoor impressed fans with her performance.

On the work front, Janhvi Kapoor has some interesting movies in her kitty. Karan Johar’s multi-starred movie Takht and Dostana 2 are next in her pipeline.

The story of India’s first woman Air Force Officer to enter a warzone, Gunjan Saxena, will be releasing on Netflix. The film, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, stars Janhvi Kapoor in the titular role.

Gunjan and Janhvi come together for an interview where they spoke about her incredible journey and Janhvi’s takeaway from the film.

Gunjan while sharing about the toughest thing for a woman in uniform said, “Other than infrastructure barriers like no separate washrooms or changing rooms which were slowing taken care of, the toughest thing was breaking the mental barrier the people had, making them accept you as a professional. Being accepted as an officer and not being looked at as a woman officer. I think that was also the most challenging and exciting part as well (smiles).”

While talking about her takeaway from the film and her learning from Gunjan, Janhvi said, “It all comes down to the effort and the hard work you put in towards your work. Her outlook was very simple, if you keep working hard, then one will get where one has to get.”

Janhvi felt that as Gunjan Saxena didn’t let the construct of society or the gender bias or anything else be an obstacle in her mind, or she even never victimised herself, but instead just kept through her work, and worked hard is something that inspires her the most.

“I am so aware of my privilege. I often felt guilty about it. But the best I can do is to earn my place by working even harder”, she adds.
