Actor Riteish Deshmukh, known for his versatile roles in Bollywood, has once again demonstrated his commitment to sustainability and family values during this year’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. In a heartwarming video shared on Monday, Deshmukh showcased the Deshmukh family’s eco-friendly tradition of crafting Ganesh idols from mud clay.
The video features Riteish, his wife Genelia, and their sons, Riaan and Rahyl, engaged in the creative process of sculpting idols of Lord Ganesha. Riteish, seen sitting on the ground, guides his children as they mold and carve their own unique idols. This hands-on activity not only upholds the family’s tradition but also educates the younger generation about the importance of environmental consciousness.

In his post, Riteish emphasized the significance of their tradition, writing, “Deshmukh household ritual of making eco-friendly Ganeshas at home and a respectful visarjan. Kids made their own Bappa and each Bappa was special.” The video also captures the family’s intimate Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, concluding with the immersion of their handcrafted idols in a small fibre tank—a practice that aligns with their commitment to reducing environmental impact.
Bollywood celebrities took to social media to express their admiration for the Deshmukh family’s efforts. Shreya Ghoshal described the celebration as “absolutely adorable,” while Kriti Sanon labeled it as “soooooo cute!! Best way of celebrating.” Tahira Kashyap and Rhea Chakraborty also joined in the praise, calling the video “too adorable” and “too sweet,” respectively.
Last year, Riteish and his family took their eco-friendly approach a step further by creating Ganesh idols from recycled materials. The family’s dedication to sustainability was evident in their innovative use of scrap to craft their Bappa idols, a tradition they continue to build upon each year.
Aside from his environmental advocacy, Riteish Deshmukh has been active in the entertainment industry. He recently starred in the crime thriller Visfot alongside Fardeen Khan and appeared in the horror comedy Kakuda with Sonakshi Sinha. Additionally, he featured in the web series Pill, which premiered on JioCinema in July. Deshmukh is currently working on Raid 2, which is in production and is highly anticipated by fans.
