Bollywood is gearing up for an ambitious new retelling of the Ramayana, set to captivate audiences with a two-part release scheduled over consecutive Diwali seasons. Namit Malhotra, the visionary producer behind the project, recently shared this grand announcement on social media, where he expressed his excitement and dedication to this endeavor. Malhotra revealed that his journey to bring this age-old epic to the big screen began over a decade ago, and he is thrilled to witness it materialize into a film that aims to be both authentic and visually breathtaking.

The highly-anticipated first installment will make its theatrical debut during Diwali 2026, while the second chapter will arrive a year later, on Diwali 2027. Malhotra’s Instagram post, which included a striking poster, conveyed his passion for creating an adaptation that respects the spirit and legacy of India’s revered tale. The poster showcases a single arrow blazing through a starlit sky—a nod to the legendary weapon of Lord Ram and a symbol of the epic’s journey to life.

Ranbir Kapoor is set to embody Lord Ram, bringing his talent to the revered character, while Sai Pallavi will take on the role of Sita, Ram’s beloved. In addition, Sunny Deol is reportedly cast as Hanuman, Ram’s loyal devotee, and Yash will portray the formidable Ravana. Other notable cast members include Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, the demoness who plays a pivotal role in the story, and Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, the queen of Kosala whose decisions drastically alter the course of the epic.

With a screenplay crafted by Malhotra and writer Shridhar Raghavan, and direction by acclaimed filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari, “Ramayana” promises a storyline that adheres closely to the original narrative while bringing fresh perspectives to the screen. Adding further depth to the film, legendary music composer A.R. Rahman will helm the soundtrack, alongside cinematography by Pankaj Kumar, known for his work in immersive visual storytelling.

Filming for “Ramayana” has reportedly begun, with select images and videos from the sets circulating online, hinting at the grandeur audiences can expect. However, details about the plot and additional cast members are being kept under wraps, creating a sense of mystery around the project.
