The Kapoor legacy is set to shine once again. Actor Ranbir Kapoor is reportedly preparing to revive RK Studios, the iconic banner established by his grandfather, the legendary Raj Kapoor. The initiative aims not only to honour the family’s cinematic heritage but also to reintroduce the RK name to a new generation of audiences — with Ranbir at the creative forefront.
According to reports, the Animal star is planning a complete relaunch of RK Films, beginning with a strong creative line-up before setting up a new production space in Mumbai. The original RK Studio in Chembur, once home to cinematic milestones such as Awaara, Shree 420, Bobby, and Mera Naam Joker, was sold to Godrej Properties in 2019 after a devastating fire in 2017. However, the revival is less about reclaiming the building and more about reviving the spirit that defined a golden era of Indian cinema.
In a major development, Ranbir is also expected to make his directorial debut under the revived banner. He reportedly plans to collaborate with longtime friends and creative partners Ayan Mukerji and Deepika Padukone. This move marks a natural evolution for the actor, who has often spoken about his desire to direct. During a virtual fan interaction on his birthday in September, he said, “I am dying to direct a movie. I’ve already started a writers’ room and have two ideas I’m exploring. It’s definitely on my to-do list in the next couple of years.”
The Kapoor family, often regarded as the first family of Indian cinema, has contributed immensely to the evolution of Bollywood through generations — from Prithviraj Kapoor’s theatrical brilliance to Raj Kapoor’s cinematic vision, and now, Ranbir’s modern artistry. The revival of RK Studios represents not just nostalgia, but a new creative chapter that bridges the old with the contemporary.
Ranbir is currently juggling multiple projects, including Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, and Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana with Sai Pallavi. Amid these, the actor’s commitment to restoring RK’s legacy underlines a personal mission — one that seeks to honour his lineage while shaping the future of Indian storytelling.
