The Indian film industry bid farewell to veteran actor Deb Mukherjee, who passed away on March 14 at the age of 83 after battling age-related health issues. His departure leaves behind a legacy of talent and warmth, deeply felt by his family, friends, and colleagues.
Mukherjee’s niece, acclaimed actress Kajol, took to Instagram to share a heartfelt tribute, reminiscing about their cherished moments during Durga Puja celebrations. “Tradition said that every Durga Puja we would click pictures together. When we were all dressed up and looking good. I’m still adjusting to the thought of a world without him. To one of the finest men that I’ve ever known. Rest in peace. You will be loved, remembered and missed every day of my life,” she wrote, alongside the hashtag #debumukerji.

Jackie Shroff, reflecting on his own personal losses, shared, “Having lost my mother, father, and brother, I feel the family pain… Condolences.” Esha Deol commented, “Deepest condolences. May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti.”
Deb Mukherjee was more than a talented actor; he was a gentle soul who left a lasting impact on those around him. As the industry mourns his passing, his memory lives on through his contributions to Indian cinema and the bonds he formed over decades.
The funeral took place the same day at Pawan Hans Crematorium in Juhu, where a gathering of close family, friends, and colleagues came together to honor Mukherjee’s memory. Ranbir Kapoor, a close friend of Ayan Mukerji, rushed back from Alibaug to stand by his side and served as a pallbearer. Prominent figures such as Anil Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, and Jaya Bachchan visited Ayan Mukerji’s home to offer personal condolences.
As Bollywood reflects on the life and legacy of Deb Mukherjee, his presence will be sorely missed, but his spirit endures in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
