Bollywood’s historical storytelling is set to soar with Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, as director Karan Singh Tyagi confirms Akshay Kumar will continue to headline the Kesari film franchise. Cementing his status as the face of the series, Kumar will portray central roles in all upcoming chapters spotlighting India’s forgotten heroes.
In this latest instalment, released on April 18, 2025, Kumar takes on the role of Justice C. Sankaran Nair—an influential figure who challenged British colonial narratives in the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
Tyagi shared insights into the development of the sequel, revealing that its working title was Shankara, before Kumar suggested rebranding it as Kesari Chapter 2. “We unanimously jumped on the idea,” Tyagi said. “Kesari stands for the colour of revolution—a symbol of valour, sacrifice, and bravery. It felt like the perfect link to the 2019 original.”
The original Kesari centered on the legendary Battle of Saragarhi, and the new chapter builds on that legacy by highlighting another pivotal moment in India’s freedom struggle. With audiences and critics embracing Kesari Chapter 2, Tyagi has confirmed that the franchise is only just beginning.
“There will definitely be more films,” he said. “Each one will bring to life the stories of unsung heroes. And Akshay will lead them all. He’s become synonymous with these powerful narratives—of resilience, courage, and sacrifice. What he has brought to this film is nothing short of remarkable.”
Kumar’s dedication to historical cinema reflects a broader mission—to spotlight India’s rich, often overlooked heritage. As Kesari evolves into a franchise celebrating brave individuals who shaped the nation’s history, Kumar remains firmly at the forefront, committed to telling stories that matter.
