Agastya Nanda Breaks Silence on Bachchan Legacy: ‘That’s Not My Legacy to Own’

Agastya Nanda addresses the pressure of the Bachchan legacy after his theatrical debut Ikkis and shares his honest perspective on carving his own identity.

Being born into one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated families comes with inevitable expectations, but Agastya Nanda appears determined to chart his own course—quietly, thoughtfully, and on his own terms. After a lukewarm response to his OTT debut The Archies in 2023, the young actor found a renewed sense of purpose with Ikkis, his first theatrical release. The film not only marked a turning point in his career but also allowed him to showcase a restrained and sincere performance as Param Vir Chakra awardee Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, earning appreciation from audiences and critics alike.

Rather than leaning into the weight of his illustrious lineage—Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan—Agastya has chosen a refreshingly grounded perspective. In a recent conversation with IMDb, the actor made it clear that he does not view the Bachchan legacy as a burden he must shoulder. For him, identity comes before inheritance. He emphasised that his surname, Nanda, connects him first and foremost to his father, and it is this bond that anchors his sense of responsibility and pride.

Agastya’s clarity is striking in an industry where star kids are often measured against the towering achievements of their predecessors. While he openly admires the work of his celebrated relatives, he remains realistic—and perhaps wiser than expected—about the futility of comparisons. He acknowledges that he can never replicate their journeys, nor does he aspire to. Instead, he is focused on evolving as an individual performer, learning from each project and letting his work speak louder than his lineage.

With Ikkis, Agastya Nanda seems to have taken a meaningful step forward—less about proving a point, and more about finding his footing. As he continues to explore roles that challenge him, it is increasingly evident that he is less interested in living up to a legacy and more invested in building one that is authentically his own. For an actor just starting out, that quiet confidence may well be his biggest strength.
