A major data theft case has reportedly surfaced at Tiger Baby Films, the production banner founded by filmmakers Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti. According to reports, 66 hard disks containing sensitive production material have allegedly gone missing from the company’s office premises.

The incident reportedly came to light on May 21 after employees were unable to locate several hard drives that were urgently required for ongoing projects. This led to an internal inspection of the storage area, during which staff members allegedly discovered damaged storage boxes and empty hard disk cases inside the office.

Reports claim that the production company originally maintained an inventory of 119 hard disks. Following the internal audit, 66 of those devices were reportedly found missing.

Confirming the robbery, Zoya Akhtar stated that the matter appeared to involve someone from within the organisation. Speaking about the incident, she said, “Yes there has been a robbery in my office, hard disks have been stolen. We filed a complaint and police has made some arrests as well. It’s an internal job, it’s sad to what extent people go to make money.”

The filmmaker, however, assured that backup copies of all important material were safely secured. “Luckily we have backup files of everything,” she added.

The stolen hard drives reportedly stored highly confidential production-related data. According to reports, the devices had storage capacities ranging from 16TB to 72TB and may have contained raw footage, edited scenes, post-production files, archival backups, advertising campaign material, and unreleased content linked to films and OTT projects.

Some reports further suggest that the missing material may include data connected to projects such as Made in Heaven and Ghost Stories.

Following the discovery, an FIR was registered and police launched an investigation into the matter. Authorities have already arrested two accused individuals in connection with the case. The accused were later remanded to police custody till May 29.

According to police officials, one of the arrested accused allegedly confessed during interrogation to stealing multiple hard disks over the past few months. The accused reportedly admitted to selling the stolen devices in the grey market.

Police are continuing their investigation to recover the remaining hard disks and determine the full scale of the operation.
