For many actors, a blockbuster debut marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. But for Ahaan Panday, the period following the success of his first film came with an unexpected personal challenge. While audiences were celebrating the box office success of Saiyaara, the actor was quietly dealing with a serious shoulder injury that eventually required surgery and a long recovery process.
In a recent conversation with Esquire India, Ahaan opened up about the difficult phase, revealing that he underwent a major shoulder surgery shortly after the film’s release in 2025. At the time, he chose to keep the procedure private and focus entirely on healing.
The actor shared that the surgery was one of the most painful procedures with a lengthy recovery period. Despite the physical and emotional toll, he remained determined to regain his strength and return to training.
According to Ahaan, the root of the issue dates back to a snowmobile accident a few years earlier that caused a shoulder subluxation. Although he initially managed to stabilise the injury, the condition eventually required medical intervention. Following the surgery, doctors warned him that his body would essentially reset physically, meaning he would have to rebuild his strength from the ground up.
Reflecting on the journey, Ahaan explained that the process was very different from typical fitness transformations often seen in the film industry. Instead of simply getting into shape, he had to move from a state of injury and limited mobility to gradually rebuilding his physical capacity.
He noted that the recovery phase involved months in a cast and strict restrictions on movement, making even basic training impossible for a period of time. Over time, however, he slowly began regaining strength and returning to the gym.
Interestingly, the actor revealed that most people never realised what he had been going through. Because he maintains a relatively low online presence, the news of his surgery remained largely unnoticed. Only a handful of attentive fans picked up on changes in his appearance and reached out to his mother, fitness expert Deanne Panday, wondering why he appeared to be losing weight.
Now fully focused on the future, Ahaan has resumed intense physical training as he prepares for his next project with filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar. The upcoming film, backed by Yash Raj Films, will mark his second collaboration with the banner and is expected to feature Sharvari as the female lead.
Ahaan made his acting debut with Saiyaara, a romantic drama that follows the story of Krish, a struggling musician who falls in love with an aspiring journalist and poet named Vaani Batra. With the film’s success and his recovery now underway, the actor appears ready to move forward with the next phase of his career.
