Aamir Khan is all set to take the plunge with his long-cherished dream of bringing the Mahabharat to the big screen. The actor has now confirmed that work on this ambitious venture will officially begin in August.

Over the years, Aamir has spoken candidly about his desire to adapt the Mahabharat, calling it a project that sits closest to his heart. However, the superstar has also acknowledged the enormity of the responsibility the epic demands, choosing to wait until the time felt right. That moment, it seems, has finally arrived.

In a recent chat with Screen, Aamir shared that the project won’t be confined to a single film but will unfold as a series of consecutive films. “You can’t narrate the Mahabharat in one film,” he emphasised, adding that the scale and depth of the narrative demand a larger canvas. The project is set to move forward in August, although it is yet to be clarified whether it marks the start of pre-production or actual filming.

Interestingly, Aamir is planning a bold move for this series—he intends to cast entirely new faces for the roles, underlining that for him, “the characters are the stars.” This decision, he believes, will allow the audience to fully immerse themselves in the world of the Mahabharat without the distraction of familiar celebrity faces.

The actor, who was recently seen in Sitaare Zameen Par, which received warm reviews for its sensitive storytelling, reflected on the personal connection he feels with the Mahabharat. At the India@2047 Summit hosted by ABP Live, he remarked, “It’s my dream to make the Mahabharat, but it’s a very difficult dream… Mahabharat will never let you down, but you might let Mahabharat down.”

Aamir’s fascination with the epic is well-known, and when previously asked which character he would like to portray, he expressed his deep admiration for Krishna, describing the character as deeply inspiring. However, he also acknowledged the scale of the project, stating that he would refrain from making grand declarations at this stage.

After years of speculation and anticipation, Aamir Khan’s Mahabharat is finally set to move from dream to reality, aiming to bring the timeless epic to life with a fresh perspective and a commitment to authenticity. With production scheduled to begin in August and a new ensemble expected to step into the iconic roles, this project is poised to become one of the most anticipated cinematic ventures in the country.
