Boman Irani is set to make a splash as a director with his debut film, The Mehta Boys, which will kick off this year’s Chicago South Asian Film Festival. The film, featuring Irani alongside Avinash Tiwary and Shreya Chaudhry, will be showcased as the festival’s opening film, with a subsequent digital release on Prime Video.
Prime Video announced the film’s festival premiere with a new poster on Instagram, captioning it, “Boys played well, indeed. The Mehta Boys premieres as the Opening Film of the Chicago South Asian Film Festival.” The 15th edition of the festival is scheduled to begin on September 20.

After the film’s screening, a Q&A session will take place with Boman Irani, Avinash Tiwary, Shreya Chaudhry, and producers Danesh Irani and Vikesh Bhutani. Additionally, Boman Irani will lead a master class on the film’s writing process with Alexander Dinelaris Jr. on the following day.
The film’s synopsis reveals a compelling story: “A father and son embark on an unintended 48-hour journey, navigating their differing viewpoints as they address the complexities of their strained relationship.”
Produced by Irani Movietone LLP and Chalkboard Entertainment LLP, The Mehta Boys is scripted by Alex Dinelaris Jr. and Boman Irani himself. The movie will make its world premiere at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival before its digital debut on Prime Video.
On a related note, Boman Irani was recently seen in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, and Vicky Kaushal. Avinash Tiwary, who stars alongside Irani, was last featured in Kunal Khemu’s The Madgaon Express and his 2018 film Laila Majnu saw a recent re-release in cinemas.
