Filmmaker and writer Tahira Kashyap, who first won hearts with her creative voice and later inspired many with her brave cancer journey, has revealed she’s facing a second round in her health battle. On Monday, the 42-year-old shared through a heartfelt Instagram post that she’s been diagnosed with a relapse of breast cancer.
“Seven-year itch or the power of regular screening—it’s a perspective,” she wrote in her note. “I’d like to go with the latter and suggest the same for everyone who needs to get regular mammograms. Round 2 for me…I still got this.”
With characteristic grace and resilience, Tahira added a dose of humour and positivity. “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. When life becomes too generous and throws them again at you, you squeeze them calmly into your favourite kala khatta drink and sip it with all the good intentions. Because for one, it’s a better drink and two, you know you will give it your best once again.”

Tahira, who is married to Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana, was first diagnosed with Stage 0 breast cancer in 2018. Since then, she has remained vocal about her journey, using her platform to raise awareness about early detection and self-examination. In February this year, she shared a striking image of herself confidently sporting a clean-shaven head—a result of chemotherapy. The photo, paired with her unfiltered reflections, was both raw and empowering.
Over the years, Tahira has posted several intimate moments from her treatment, including chemotherapy sessions and hospital visits, always with a touch of humour and immense strength. Her openness has helped demystify the disease and offered support to many going through similar experiences.
Beyond her personal battle, Tahira has continued to create impactful stories through her work in cinema. She made her directorial debut in 2017 with the much-acclaimed short film Toffee. Her latest film, Sharmajee Ki Beti, premiered on Prime Video.
In a world where strength is often quietly endured, Tahira Kashyap’s voice stands out—not just for her candid storytelling but also for the way she continues to turn vulnerability into power. Her journey, now entering a new phase, reminds us that courage doesn’t always roar—it sometimes sips kala khatta and smiles back at life’s challenges.
As she steps into “Round 2,” her message is clear: the fight is far from over, but she’s not backing down. And in doing so, she continues to inspire a generation.
