Ram Teri Ganga Maili actress Mandakini is all set to make a comeback in the showbiz after almost two decades.
The actress was well-known for her movies in the 80s but she left the industry 20 years ago. Recently her manager Babubhai Thiba confirmed that she is reading scripts for her comeback. She is even ready to take up OTT projects.
Her manager shared the same with ETimes and said “Mandakini is definitely making a comeback and at present reading scripts and inviting narrations, too. She is open to working in web series and films, but wants to play central characters in the projects.”
While she maintained a low profile after quitting the industry, it was her brother who convinced her to return to the industry. He further shared, “When she would visit Durga Puja pandals in Kolkata, I could see that she still has a huge fan following. So, I told her that she must start acting again. She was offered the central role in a serial called ‘Chhoti Sardani’, which Mandakini refused but she suggested Anita Raaj’s name for the role instead.”
Her song Tujhe Bulayen Yeh Meri Bahen in the movie Ram Teri Ganga Maili which showed her splashing water in a waterfall in a sheer white saree is iconic and is remembered even to this day.
The actress got married to Dr. Kagyur T. Rinpoche Thakur. In 1990. Her husband has been a popular face as a child and was featured in the advertisements for Murphy’s radios back in the 70s and 80s
In an earlier interview, she also stated that “I was initiated into Tibetan yoga years ago when I was seeking solace from the rigors of the film industry. My teacher was my husband, who is deeply into spirituality.”
The couple had two children Rabbil and Rabze. Unfortunately, her son Rabbil passed away in a car accident in 2000. She was last seen in the 2002 movie ‘Se Amar Prem’.
