Sonali Bendre inaugurated a bookshelf at Angel Xpress Foundation’s Juhu centre. The NGO which has 20 centres across the city, teaches Maths, English and Life skills to underprivileged children. Sonali who is passionate about reading from an early age has her own reading club called Somali’s Book Club.
Sonali shares, “While growing up books were my best friend as we moved to different places a lot. Through reading, we get to explore so many places that we would not otherwise get to.”
Centre-Head Debika, shares, “Sonali wanted to start an activity with the AXF kids as part of her book club so this was a first on the ground activity for the little ones. Donation of a first Mobile library for the Juhu centre with books donated by the members of the book club.”
Through this initiative, she hopes to encourage children to start reading by helping set up libraries in various places.
After the inauguration, she stayed back for a book reading session with the children of the NGO and also did a bookmark making activity.
“I love books and believe storybooks have taught me almost everything I know. We are delighted with Sonali’s book club kicking off at Angel Xpress. We are hoping this association will also bring us a lot more volunteers who can help our children read better by contributing just 2 hours a week!”, added Anubha Sharma, who is one of the founders of AXF.
This is a first for the association between Sonali’ Book Club and Angel Xpress Foundation and hopes they can change the lives of young children by providing the tools to build their skills.
