The Hindi film song made its existence as a prevailing distinctive in the culture of the nation and initiated to assume roles beyond the limited purview of cinema. In multi-cultural India, the Bollywood music cut through all the linguistic fences in India, to involve in lively communication with the nation where innumerable lingoes and dialects are articulated. Music of Bollywood has drawn its inspiration from plentiful traditional sources, as well as from other Indic musical subcultures.
Bollywood gave us films that blow us away and remembered for years; be it the concept, presentation, acting or music, some movies excelled in all segments. But there were films, completely botched in most sections except its music that rocked. A soundtrack can make or break a film, so the composer, as he is the key craftsman of its musical structure.
Bollywood has gifted us many such amazing geniuses, a large number of them are from the soil of Bengal, who have exposed their class and proficiency, taken Bollywood music to the extreme level. Be it folk or rhythmic disco, classical or modern, experimental or traditional. These Bengali architects have fashioned Bollywood music with profound contentment and serenity. From lyrical solos, mawkish duets, boisterous dance numbers or a romantic tune, the repertoire is vast.
The Radius will present few glimpses of these jewels, through a journey towards discovering and enjoying gold nuggets of such immortal rich music, weaved by four of the most protuberant and maverick Bengali composers of Bollywood S D Burman, Salil Chowdhury, Hemant Kumar & R D Burman. 13th June Radius will be presenting the musical endeavour-“Mortal Man, Immortal Melodies” – A tribute to Bengali composers in Bollywood. This concert will be held in Uttam Mancha, 6 pm onwards.
The singers Trijoy Deb, Dipanwita Choudhury, Anwesha Dutta, Arnab Basu, Sagnik Chakraborty try to bring back through their golden tune of these legends alive. Music will be arranged by Sudipta Saha, while the journey will be presented by Satinath Mukhopadhyay, Roopsha Dasgupta Ray.
