At Lakmē Fashion Week x FDCI 2025, the iconic design duo Abraham & Thakore present Warp & Weft — a masterful collection that reimagines the language of Indian dress to create fresh, contemporary expressions of style. Anchored in tradition yet boldly modern, the collection is a celebration of heritage crafts reinterpreted for today’s fashion landscape.

Slated for 9 October 2025 as part of Sustainable Fashion Day, Warp & Weft is a thoughtful exploration of Indian sartorial identity — anchored by two timeless icons: the dhoti and the lungi. These quintessential garments are reworked with ingenuity, offering new silhouettes that speak both to tradition and to innovation.

Reimagining Heritage with Modern Silhouettes

The bordered dhoti transforms into playful handkerchief skirts and babydoll tops, infusing the collection with whimsy and fluidity. For menswear, the lungi’s relaxed geometry becomes a foundation for effortlessly stylish tailoring, expressed in bandhgalas, bundis, and kurtas that exude quiet strength. This marriage of structure and ease is what makes Warp & Weft a narrative of contrasts — past meeting future, discipline blending with freedom.

Innovation at the Core

Textile innovation is central to the vision of Warp & Weft. Abraham & Thakore reimagine ikat weaving by using 100% Tencel as the base yarn, replacing traditional cotton. The result is a heritage fabric given a modern sensibility — light, airy, and wearable while preserving the artistry of traditional craftsmanship. This choice reflects the designers’ deep commitment to sustainability, quality, and innovation.

The collection carries an understated elegance: women’s wear adorned with sequins, metallic accents, and delicate embroidery that add a whisper of glamour without overpowering the subtle sophistication. Menswear, meanwhile, maintains refined minimalism infused with texture and detail, offering versatile pieces for day and evening wear alike.

A Philosophy in Fabric

Abraham & Thakore’s work has long been celebrated for its fabric-first philosophy — a dedication to showcasing Indian heirloom textiles while creating garments that blend heritage with the rhythm of contemporary life. “Warp & Weft is where threads cross: past and future, structure and flow, discipline and ease, day and night,” the designers explain. Their latest work continues their legacy of collapsing binaries — east and west, masculine and feminine, tradition and modernity — redefining what contemporary Indian fashion can be.

The Show: A Statement in Sustainability

Presented as part of Sustainable Fashion Day at Lakmē Fashion Week, Warp & Weft exemplifies a mindful approach to design, where tradition meets innovation in harmony. Abraham & Thakore invite audiences not just to see garments but to experience a story — a dialogue between culture, craft, and the contemporary moment.

Through Warp & Weft, Abraham & Thakore reaffirm that fashion can be both timeless and forward-looking, offering pieces that honour heritage while charting a bold course for the future of Indian clothing.
