Akshay Kumar is clearly on a cinematic spree, having recently wrapped up two much-anticipated films — Priyadarshan’s horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla, co-starring Wamiqa Gabbi, and a special appearance in the Telugu epic Kannappa. But the Bollywood superstar, known for effortlessly juggling multiple projects, shows no signs of slowing down. Reports confirm that Kumar is currently shooting Hera Pheri 3 and simultaneously laying the groundwork for yet another ambitious sequel — OMG 3, the third instalment in the widely loved OMG — Oh My God! franchise.
Reuniting with OMG 2 director Amit Rai, the duo is actively brainstorming the storyline for the next film. According to sources close to the project, their creative sessions took place recently in Kerala during the final schedule of Bhooth Bangla. Rai is said to have pitched multiple narrative directions and has now begun working on the first draft of the screenplay. If all goes as planned, OMG 3 is expected to go on floors in the second half of 2026.
A Franchise Built on Faith, Wit, and Social Relevance
The OMG series has carved a niche in Indian cinema by blending humour, courtroom drama, and impactful social commentary. The original 2012 film, directed by Umesh Shukla, featured Paresh Rawal as an atheist shopkeeper who takes God to court after an earthquake destroys his store. Akshay Kumar played a modern-day incarnation of Lord Krishna. The film was celebrated for its fearless take on blind faith and the commercialization of religion, earning both critical acclaim and box-office success.
Over a decade later, OMG 2 (2023), helmed by Amit Rai, tackled the sensitive issue of sex education. Pankaj Tripathi starred as a devout father challenging societal taboos to advocate for his son’s right to proper sexual education. Akshay Kumar returned in a divine avatar, this time as a messenger of Lord Shiva. The sequel upheld the franchise’s signature tone — blending satire with social critique in a courtroom setting.
What Could OMG 3 Be About?
While the central theme of OMG 3 is still under wraps, speculation is already mounting. With the first two films addressing religion and sex education, the next instalment is expected to spotlight another pressing social issue.
