The iconic singer passed away at the age of 92 on Sunday, a day after being admitted to Breach Candy Hospital. Her demise has marked the end of an extraordinary era, with the film industry and fans alike mourning the loss of one of its most influential voices.
Taking to social media, Shah Rukh Khan shared a heartfelt post along with a warm photograph of himself affectionately kissing Asha Bhosle on the cheek. Reflecting on her immense contribution, he wrote, “It’s truly sad to learn about Asha Tai’s passing… her voice has been one of the pillars of Indian cinema and will continue to resonate world over for centuries to come.”
He also spoke about their personal bond, recalling her warmth and affection. “A talent that will outlive many, she always showered me with blessings and love and I will miss her. Rest in Peace Asha Tai… love you,” he added.
Asha Bhosle’s legacy is nothing short of monumental. With a career spanning over eight decades, she recorded more than 12,000 songs in over 20 languages, seamlessly traversing genres from classical and ghazals to pop and cabaret. Her extraordinary versatility set her apart as one of the most dynamic voices in Indian music history.
Among her many accolades, she received two National Film Awards for Dil Cheez Kya Hai from Umrao Jaan and Mera Kuch Saamaan from Ijaazat. She was also honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, recognising her immense contribution to the arts.
