Agragami Puja Samity is celebrating the silver jubilee of its Durga Puja in an eco-friendly style

by Team Expresso

Durga Puja is more than a festival for Bengalis. The whole year Bengalis are waiting for this particular festival to celebrate the shades, emotions, knick-knack pandals, lights, food, culture whatnot. Not only Bengal but also the national capital Delhi is celebrating this Durga Puja every year.

Agragami Puja Samity in Vikaspuri, Delhi is celebrating the Durga Puja for the past 25 years. This Samity is celebrating the silver jubilee of its Durga Puja this year in an eco-friendly style. They are using Patravali Leaf plates for food, the 12 ft Durga idol is made of clay and painted with organic colors.

A theme for the 25th year of Durga Puja is Women Empowerment, Story of Women: Educated. Confident. Independent. The proposed words of the theme: Educated, Confident & Independent in true sense denote our Aaj Ki Nari. Goddess Durga is a sign of a positive woman, a strong warrior, a kind-hearted mother, a daughter, and a beautiful wife. So Durga Puja is the right place to celebrate Women Empowerment.

Another specialty of Agragami Puja Samity is the cultural program by Bengali singers, dancers from Kolkata, Baul Singers, Bengali folk singers, Dance-drama, Bengali Band, etc.,

If you are talking about Durga Puja then obviously the food is necessary because Bengalis are always known for their art & culture, literature & food. And Durga Puja means traditional vegetarian bhog, which is served after puja every day from Saptami to Navami. The Bhog menu of Agragami Puja Samity is also changed every day.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kishore Banerjeesecretaryof Agragami Puja Samity said, “We started this journey of celebration, togetherness, and happiness 25 years ago as 6 families who wanted to do Durga Pujo. We went through various obstacles, problems and other issues but the spirit of Durga Pujo kept us together, starting from a 20 member, we have more than 400 members today and by the blessings of Maa Durga, we aspire to grow more. This year being our 25th Anniversary we revamped our design and moved towards more eco-friendly puja.”

Mr. Preetam Chakraborty Public Relations Officer said, “I became a part of the Agragami family 7 years ago, and from that time it’s all about love, friendship and cohesiveness of the Bengali Diaspora here in Vikas Puri. Apart from celebrations, we are associated with an NGO as a part of our vision of collaborative efforts for creating happiness for everyone. This year our theme is women’s empowerment and we are going to switch to non-plastic products for our puja. We believe in sustainability and cultural homogeneity, and try to follow and showcase it in all of our endeavors.”
