India has lost one of its most cherished voices. Asha Bhosle passed away at the age of 92, marking the end of an extraordinary era in Indian music. The legendary singer breathed her last at Breach Candy Hospital due to multi organ failure after being under medical care.

Her son, Anand Bhosle, confirmed the news and shared details regarding her final rites. Speaking to the media, he said that those wishing to pay their last respects can visit her residence, Casa Grande in Lower Parel, on the morning of April 13. The last rites will be conducted later that day at Shivaji Park at 4 pm.

Earlier reports had indicated that the singer had been unwell for some time. Her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, had shared that Asha Bhosle was hospitalised due to extreme exhaustion and a chest infection, requesting privacy as treatment was underway. However, the news of her passing was confirmed on Sunday, April 12.

With a career spanning over seven decades, Asha Bhosle redefined playback singing in India. Recording thousands of songs across multiple languages, she seamlessly moved between classical music, ghazals, pop, and cabaret. Her iconic collaborations with R. D. Burman produced some of Hindi cinema’s most memorable tracks, many of which remain timeless even today.

She also shared a historic musical legacy with her sister, Lata Mangeshkar, with the duo shaping what is often regarded as the golden age of Hindi film music. Over the years, Asha Bhosle received numerous honours, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and the Padma Vibhushan, recognising her immense contribution to the arts.

As news of her demise spread, tributes poured in from across the country. Narendra Modi, Shah Rukh Khan, Virat Kohli, Kareena Kapoor Khan, A. R. Rahman, Karan Johar, Anushka Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar, Kajol, and Manish Malhotra, among many others, expressed their grief and paid heartfelt tributes to the legendary singer.

Asha Bhosle’s passing is not just the loss of a musical icon but the closing of a chapter that defined generations. Her voice, rich with emotion and versatility, will continue to echo through time, keeping her legacy alive forever.
