Rajkumar Hirani and Ranbir Kapoor’s Next Collaboration Takes a Thoughtful Pause

Rajkumar Hirani and Ranbir Kapoor are taking the patient route with their next collaboration. The film, once set to roll soon, has been pushed to 2027 to ensure the story finds its truest form.

When Sanju released in 2018, it wasn’t just another biopic — it was the meeting point of two creative forces. Rajkumar Hirani’s compassionate storytelling and Ranbir Kapoor’s immersive performance created a cinematic synergy that resonated far beyond the screen. It’s no wonder that audiences have since awaited their next chapter together.

That reunion, however, will take a little longer than expected. Reports suggest that Hirani and Ranbir’s next collaboration — a biopic on an athlete — has now been postponed until 2027. The decision, as sources reveal, stems from a shared belief that the story needs more time to mature.

The duo had been developing the project for months, exploring narrative angles and character depth. But with Ranbir’s schedule packed and Hirani’s commitment to delivering emotional authenticity, the filmmaker reportedly chose patience over pressure. The understanding is clear — creative alignment matters more than a release date.

In the interim, Hirani is shifting focus to another biographical venture — a film based on the life of Dadasaheb Phalke, the pioneer of Indian cinema. The project is set to star Aamir Khan, who is preparing to step into the role with characteristic dedication. Early reports indicate that Aamir has begun physical preparation and will start workshops by the end of this year. Production is expected to begin in early 2026, with Hirani envisioning a period drama that balances historical grandeur with emotional depth — hallmarks of his cinema.

Ranbir Kapoor, meanwhile, continues his streak of ambitious projects. He will next be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, co-starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal — a collaboration that already has cinephiles intrigued. Following that, he steps into mythological territory with Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, portraying Lord Ram — a role demanding both discipline and grace. Post these commitments, Ranbir is expected to choose between two massive projects in the pipeline: Dhoom 4 and Animal Park.

Though their much-anticipated reunion might be a few years away, the anticipation itself adds to the mystique. Both Hirani and Ranbir have built reputations on precision — crafting cinema that speaks to the heart without succumbing to haste. Perhaps, in the world of storytelling, some partnerships deserve the luxury of time.

Because when a filmmaker like Rajkumar Hirani and an actor like Ranbir Kapoor come together again, the result isn’t just a film — it’s an event in Indian cinema.
