Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s much-anticipated romcom Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari will now hit theatres on October 2, 2025, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra. The Shashank Khaitan directorial was previously slated for September 12 but has shifted to leverage the festive window for a smooth box office run.
On Monday, Dharma Productions unveiled a new poster featuring Varun Dhawan as the cheerful ‘Sunny Sanskari’. Clad in a cream embroidered outfit with sunglasses, he poses with folded hands against a golden backdrop, exuding a festive vibe. The announcement was paired with a shaayari: “Yeh aansoon hai mere, samundar ka jal nahin… Baarish ka kya bharosa, aaj hai… kal nahin!”
This film marks Varun’s third collaboration with Shashank Khaitan after Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania, and reunites him with Janhvi Kapoor following their pairing in Bawaal.
The ensemble cast includes Akshay Oberoi, Rohit Saraf, Sanya Malhotra, and Maniesh Paul. The film is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, and Apoorva Mehta under Dharma Productions, with Shashank Khaitan’s Mentor Disciple Films also backing the project.
With music by Pritam and lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya, the soundtrack is set to bring a vibrant, festive energy to the narrative.

Why the new release date?
Industry insiders highlight that the October 2 release is a strategic decision, aligning with the double holiday to ensure a festive cinema atmosphere and a potential three-week clear run before Diwali. “It’s the perfect window to bring a romcom, with minimal competition during the festive period,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.
Despite this advantage, the film will face competition at the box office from Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1 and Harshvardhan Rane’s Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat.
