Yash Raj Films’ much-awaited action thriller Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh, has been creating buzz as the next big addition to the YRF Spy Universe. However, the film’s release has now been officially postponed to April 17, 2026.
The production house clarified that the decision to postpone the release stems from the need for additional time to complete the film’s extensive VFX work, ensuring it meets YRF’s high visual standards. In an official statement, a YRF spokesperson said, “Alpha is a very special project for us, and we want to showcase it in the best possible way on the big screen. We realised that the visual effects require more time than initially planned, and we don’t want to compromise on quality. Our goal is to deliver a truly cinematic experience that audiences can treasure, which is why the film will now release on April 17, 2026.”
Directed under the YRF banner, Alpha also features Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol in key roles. The film marks Alia Bhatt’s first collaboration with Yash Raj Films and her debut appearance in the YRF Spy Universe — a franchise that has previously featured stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, and Deepika Padukone.
Billed as India’s first female-led, full-scale action film, Alpha will see Alia and Sharvari going head-to-head against Bobby Deol in what is described as a “brutal showdown.” The film promises to showcase Alia in a never-before-seen action avatar, bringing a new dimension to the expanding spy universe.
“The Alpha team wants to deliver the best possible film for audiences. It’s a sensible move by YRF, as the VFX team was facing tight and demanding deadlines. The shift in release date has nothing to do with the crowded release calendar from Avatar to early 2026. There’s still substantial post-production work to be completed, which is why the film will now arrive in April instead of February,” the source revealed.
With expectations high and YRF’s track record of delivering large-scale cinematic spectacles, Alpha is already being positioned as one of 2026’s biggest theatrical releases — and a defining moment for female-led action films in India.
