Veteran actor Sunny Deol has officially confirmed that he will be stepping into the revered role of Lord Hanuman in filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari’s much-anticipated cinematic adaptation of the Ramayana. The film, which stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, promises to be one of the most ambitious mythological epics to hit Indian screens in recent times, with a release planned across two parts in 2026 and 2027.
In a recent interview, Deol shared his excitement and apprehensions about taking on the iconic character of Lord Hanuman. “There’s always a sense of nervousness and fear, but that’s what makes it meaningful. It pushes you to dig deep and understand how you’re going to rise to the demands of the role. After all, it’s a rare chance to do something truly special,” he said.
The actor, known for his powerful screen presence and action-packed roles, believes this role marks a significant moment in his career. Taking on a character so deeply embedded in the cultural and spiritual fabric of India is no small feat, and Deol appears ready to embrace both the responsibility and the challenge.

In fact, right after this, I’m heading over to watch a bit of what they’ve already shot,” he revealed, offering a glimpse into the work happening behind the scenes.
He also commended producer Namit Malhotra and the team for their ambitious vision and dedication to quality. “They’re doing an outstanding job. Their goal is to capture that supernatural essence with visual effects that, hopefully, match the standards of Hollywood,” Deol noted. “Ramayana is a tale that’s been passed down in every village and corner of India, and presenting it on the big screen with this level of scale and commitment—I truly believe the film will honor the epic and resonate with audiences.”
