Michael B Jordan who was named 2020’s 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine and People’s Sexiest Man Alive; has time and again proven that he is a force to reckon with. Be it in MGM’s power-packed Creed franchise, to him choosing experimental roles that would surprise everyone; the actor-cum-producer sure knows how to leave his mark and has taken on some incredibly powerful roles that have had a lasting impact on audiences. Here are 5 films of the versatile actor that will bring in the adrenaline to beat your mid-week blues amidst this pandemic –
Black Panther (Disney+Hotstar)
One of the most culturally impactful movies from the franchise is Ryan Coogler’s, Black Panther. The movie featured Michael B. Jordan as the villainous, Killmonger, who is one of the most revered antagonists. The actor’s portrayal in the extremely thrilling Marvel film received universal acclaim, so much so, that fans of the film still want the character back in action in the much-awaited sequel despite the death of Killmonger.
Without Remorse (Amazon Prime Video)
The latest in his action-packed thrillers is Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse. Bringing one of the most loved characters to life after Jack Ryan, Jordan as John Kelly aka Sr. Chief John Clark is an absolute treat to every action movie buff. At the onset of a larger conspiracy involving the US and Russia, John Clark’s emotional and adrenaline-filled story of avenging his wife’s murder will keep audiences hooked to the screen. The intense dark story of vengeance is directed by Stefano Sollima and co-produced by Michael B Jordan himself.
Just Mercy (Amazon Prime Video)
Inspired by a true story, “Just Mercy” is a critically acclaimed, powerful, and thought-provoking story, that follows young lawyer Bryan Stevenson (Michael B. Jordan) and his history-making battle for justice. In a truly gut-wrenching film, Jordan’s Bryan heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned or who were unable to afford proper representation. It is a story of justice and redemption where the lead becomes embroiled in a labyrinth of legal and political maneuverings along with unabashed racism in a corrupt system. It also stars Jamie Foxx and Brie Larson in key roles.
Fahrenheit 451 (Disney+Hotstar)
It is a 2018 American dystopian drama film directed and co-written by the brilliant Ramin Bahrani, and is based on a book by the same name. Set in a future America, the film follows a “fireman” (played by Michael B Jordan as Guy Montag) whose job it is to burn books, which are now illegal. In an authoritarian society that burns books and inflicts chaos and insanity, Guy questions everything after meeting a young woman. Jordan does a phenomenal job in George Orwell’s ground-breaking novel 1984 inspired film that has been pictured in vivid detail of what our world could become if the governments had unchecked power.
That Awkward Moment (Amazon Prime Video)
Showcasing an array of action dramas that our hunk Michael B Jordan has been a part of, ‘That Awkward Moment’ was an unusual American romantic comedy-drama film that was written and directed by Tom Gormican, and starred Zac Efron (Jason), Miles Teller (Daniel) alongside Jordan (Mikey). It is a story about how the three friends decide to live a carefree life and avoid commitments. However, each of them indulges in a serious relationship and tries to hide it from the other two. Jordan as Mickey was absolutely adorbs who rooted for his high-school sweetheart, something that we all probably wished we had.
After collecting accolades around the world, Mansi and Veer’s heart-warming tale about embracing love, life, and friendship in Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele is set to arrive on Disney+ Hotstar VIP. Actors Zareen Khan and Anshuman Jha portray the role of Mansi and Veer – two strangers and proud members of the LGBT+ community; who have more in common than they realise and chance upon each other at a bar while trying to escape their respective realities.
The duo soon embarks on a road trip that turns out to be a journey of a lifetime; as they drive from Delhi to Mcleodganj, Veer and Mansi discover that love is truly beyond gender.
Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele created big noise globally as it won over several international film critics and enthusiasts, and clinched the Best Film-Audience Choice award at the HBO South Asian International Film Festival, New York. Winning the “Jury Award Best Actor” (Anshuman Jha), Best Actress-Hindi Films (Zareen Khan) & Best Director (Harish Vyas) awards at the 2020 Rajasthan International Film Festival, Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele was also the centerpiece film at the IFFM Melbourne 2020 and was the Closing Night Gala Film of Kashish 2020, Asia’s biggest LGBTQ film festival. Written and directed by Harish Vyas and produced by First Ray Films, the film addresses homosexuality, friendship, and love through its lead characters and their humane journey. Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele releases this 9th May 2021 exclusively for subscribers of Disney+ Hotstar VIP and Disney+ Hotstar Premium.
Director Harish Vyas said, “Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele is a human story of a special friendship that blooms, by chance, between a man and woman – both homosexuals – who are not only polar opposites – think yin & yang, but have had completely different personal journeys so far. My endeavor with this film is to bring forth the warm, positive, loving embrace that is the soul of friendship & to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community which I have been close to.”
He further added, “We are grateful to have had a universal audience in New York, Australia & all the festivals where the film was showered with love & several global recognitions. After “Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain” I wanted to follow up With a light, compassionate journey to re-discover love & friendship. “Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele” is the culmination of that thought. And I am hoping that it also receives a positive response from audiences watching it on Disney+ Hotstar VIP.”
Actor Zareen Khan said, “I was immediately drawn to the depth and emotionality of Mansi’s character since the first time that I heard the narration of Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele by Harish Sir and post-reading the screenplay – its unique storyline just hooked me. Just like Veer and Mansi’s lives change after their road trip, Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele has been a life-changing experience for me and I do hope the film is able to relay the message that love is love – to even more people as it releases on Disney+ Hotstar VIP.”
”The intent has been to bring forth a ‘Pure’ story. The Supreme Court of India has legalized homosexuality, but there is still a section of society that considers it a taboo in India and my character Veer hasn’t mustered up the courage to speak openly to his family because he fears that they won’t accept it too. With friendship & love at its core, Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele is a movie that will feel like a warm hug & hopefully inspire people to have more open conversations. Encourage Acceptance. We missed the theatre due to the Pandemic but I couldn’t be happier that more audiences will be able to watch it on Disney+ Hotstar VIP. It’s my last work which my mother saw before I lost her in 2020 & it’s therefore even more special for me,” added Anshuman Jha.

He further added, “It just happened that all my films so far have been based in Kolkata. Maybe because of my roots and comfort zone. Though shooting in Kolkata is not an easy task with so many parameters forcefully thrown upon us by the management.”
Broken Frame deals with the journey of a married couple who is planning to celebrate their wedding anniversary and due to some course of events, something goes terribly wrong on the same celebration night. What went wrong between the two is the crux of the story.
“I feel Rohit is a fantastic actor. He was well prepared with his character and dialogues. He is one of those rare actors who gets deep into the character and stays involved till the last day of the shoot. I am glad that we got to work together as a team. Rohit is like an elder brother who helped in improvising shots with his valuable inputs,” says Ram Kamal.
Ritabhari plays the female lead and she has been working on many regional and national films lately.
“I have seen her work with Anurag Kashyap in Fool For Love and her Bengali film Bhrambha Janen Gopon Kommoti. She is an extremely talented actor. During the script narration she had jotted down points which she wanted to discuss and once we cleared her doubts she was fully into the character,” says the director.
Rohit Bose Roy shares working experience with the award-winning director.
He says, “I have known Ram Kamal since his early days of journalism. Suddenly I noticed that he turned into a filmmaker and I happened to watch his film Cakewalk with Esha Deol and Season’s Greetings with Celina Jaitly. That’s when I wrote to him that I would love to work with him someday. And after a couple of months, he approached me with this film, which was a fantastic subject.
Screenplay by Sameer Satija the film has music by Shhailendra Kkumar. The film is shot by Modhura Palit in Kolkata and produced by Aritra Das, Sarbani Mukherjee and Gaurav Daga.
