After entertaining audiences together in the popular Fukrey franchise, actors Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha are all set to share screen space as romantic leads for the very first time in an untitled situational comedy. Backed by Scenework Productions and Giriraj Productions, the film will also feature acclaimed actor Kumud Mishra in a pivotal role.
Directed by actor-writer-filmmaker Shashie Vermaa, the comedy is set against the lively backdrop of Delhi and promises a blend of humour, emotion and slice-of-life storytelling. According to the makers, the film explores relationships, everyday situations and the chaos that unfolds from seemingly ordinary moments, while also weaving in subtle social commentary.
The project is slated to go on floors in the second half of 2026, with a theatrical release planned for April 2027.
While Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha have appeared together in the Fukrey films, this marks the first time the real-life couple will headline a story as an on-screen pair.
Expressing his excitement, Ali Fazal said the script immediately stood out because of its grounded characters and relatable situations. He added that he has long admired Shashie Vermaa’s work and is looking forward to collaborating with the filmmaker while exploring a completely new on-screen dynamic with Richa.
Richa Chadha said she was drawn to the film’s honest writing and emotional depth. She described the story as funny, heartfelt and rooted in everyday life, adding that its Delhi setting reminded her of her childhood. The actress also shared that she is excited to work alongside Ali in a completely different capacity after their Fukrey collaborations.
Director Shashie Vermaa said the film celebrates people, relationships and the unpredictable twists that life can bring. He noted that Delhi itself plays an important role in the narrative, adding that performers like Ali Fazal, Richa Chadha and Kumud Mishra bring authenticity and warmth to the story.
The announcement comes after the successful completion of Scenework Productions and Giriraj Productions’ children’s sports film Murga Trophy. With this untitled comedy, the banners continue to expand their slate with content-driven cinema. Featuring a fresh pairing, relatable humour and an emotionally engaging narrative, the film is expected to be one of the most anticipated theatrical releases of 2027.
