An emotional moment unfolded at the national awards ceremony in Delhi as veteran actress and politician Hema Malini accepted the posthumous Padma Vibhushan on behalf of her late husband Dharmendra. The honour was presented by President Droupadi Murmu in the presence of family members and dignitaries.
Hema Malini attended the ceremony with her daughter Ahana Deol, who became emotional as her mother walked up to the stage to receive the prestigious award. The actress-politician wore a pink saree with a silver border for the occasion and completed her look with a traditional choker necklace.
Ahead of the event, Hema Malini spoke about the significance of the honour for the family. She shared that Ahana accompanied her to Delhi, while Esha Deol was unable to attend. She also mentioned that the entire Deol family, including Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, was deeply moved and proud of the recognition being given to Dharmendra.
Dharmendra passed away on November 24, 2025, after a brief illness. Known as one of the most iconic stars of Hindi cinema, he enjoyed a career spanning several decades and delivered numerous memorable performances. His final screen appearance was in Ikkis, directed by Sriram Raghavan, which released on January 1, 2026.
